In den Paradijstuin
the strange thing about this illustration (In the garden of Paradise) is that there is no story in the book that has anything to do with it...
it is from a fairy tale book "Gouden Regen" that was my mom's when she was a little girl and it may even have belonged to her sisters before her.. early 1900's i'd say..
after a suggestion of Canna W i looked better and saw that this is a lithography by or after Eugen Johann Georg Klimsch (1839-1896) who was quite famous in his time..

Nice litho. The angel's costume is really strange. I like it. And I've taken a look at your postcard collection. Think I should share some of mine (I have a big collection of cats postcards) with my bloggerfriends!
Happy New Year to you!
seeing his wings i'd say he's a demon, not an angel...
thanks for visiting! :)
i'll love to see your cat cards...
What a shame ... appears it would have been quite a story!
it must be from on of the Arabian Nights stories.. question stays: which one...
Images from the past often has this mystique about them. At least, in my opinion.
It looks to be the morning star... mr. chaos himself. The costume, Chinese maybe, rather Mingish? the boy's seems to be English. Great old illo!!!
